Native Plant Sale: Native plants can provide a beautiful, hardy, drought resistant, low maintenance landscape while benefiting the environment. Once established native plants are able to take care of themselves.

Soil Test Kits: Why should you soil test your lawn and garden? Lawn and garden soil testing optimizes the growth of your lawn and flowers or the yields of fruits and vegetables in your garden. Imbalances of nutrients can lead to poor growth and yield or flowering. Adding the right amount of nutrients and eliminating the excesses allows nutrients to be utilized efficiently. Your Soil Analysis System includes a sample bag, sampling probe, and instructions for taking and sending in a soil sample. You will receive a report back in the mail which includes pH, buffer, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and organic matter. A fertilizer recommendation and information on lawn and garden fertility will also be sent along with the results. These kits are available at the Kendall County SWCD office for $28 each. (This does not include the cost for shipping the sample)

Water Test Kits:  A Watersafe® test kit contains everything you need to find out simply and accurately if your water contains unsafe or undesirable levels of 8 common contaminates.  This kit tests for: bacteria, lead, pesticides, nitrates, nitrites, pH, hardness, and chlorine.  Kits are available at the Kendall County SWCD office for $22 each.

Rain Barrels: Save the Rain for a sunny day!  By using rain barrels, you are benefiting the environment by reducing sewer runoff, helping your garden and landscape thrive, reducing your water bill, and reducing stress to the water supply.  A rain barrel is a system that collects and stores rainwater from your roof.  Only 1/4 inch of rainfall runoff from the average roof will completely fill the typical barrel.  Because you are collecting it right off your roof, it has few contaminants and is perfect for watering gardens and flower pots.

These Rain Barrels are made from recycled, 55 gallon, food grade barrels and comes assembled with a spigot, linking fitting at the bottom end, overflow fitting near the top and a screen enclosure for the top.  They are available in black, blue, grey and terra cotta.  Accessories may be available upon request.  Check below for our Rain Barrel/Composter Order Form.

Composters: Yard waste and food scraps make up 20% - 30% of garbage!!  By composting yard and kitchen waste, you send less garbage to landfills.  Flowers, vegetables, trees, shrubs, house plants, lawns, and container gardens grow better in soil mixed with compost. Composting provides an almost constant source of free fertilizer and soil conditioner.  Through regular use of compost you can greatly reduce the need for chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides, which saves money and reduces contamination of our waterways and drinking water.

Our large composters are made from a black, recycled food grade barrel and are available for $110.  Our mini composters are terra cotta in color and are available for $40.  Order forms are available below.
