Annual Meeting: Each year the Kendall County SWCD hosts an Annual Meeting to highlight the past years' accomplishments.  This event is held at the beginning of each calendar year and is open to the public.

Board Meetings: SWCD Board meetings are held the second Monday of each month at 5:00pm unless otherwise posted.  There will be no meeting in May or October due to spring planting and fall harvest.  The meetings are held in the USDA Meeting Room and are open to the public.

Conservation 2000 Program: The Conservation 2000 (C-2000) Program provides cost-share assistance to landowners for the construction of conservation practices that conserve soil, enhance water quality and protect other natural resources.  Several different practices are eligible in include filter strips, grassed waterways, terraces, water and sediment control basins, and grade stabilizations.  Additional projects include Nutrient Management (NMP), Well Sealing (WDP) and Streambank Stabilization (SSRP).  For more information, contact the District's Resource Conservationist, Megan Andrews, at megan.andrews@il.nacdnet.net.

Envirothon: Envirothon is a problem-solving natural resource competition for high school students in the United States and Canada.  Working as a team of five, students learn to use critical thinking and problem solving skills to arrive at solutions to certain environmental issues in Aquatics, Forestry, Soils, Wildlife and a current environmental issue.  To obtain additional information on the Envirothon, please visit the national website at www.envirothon.org.  For information on the regional competition, contact the District's Education Coordinator, Jenny Wold, at jennywold5@yahoo.com.

Fish Sale: Here's an opportunity to stock your pond.  The District hosts a fish sale twice a year: Spring and Fall.  A variety of fish are available including the Triploid Grass Carp, known for its biological weed control.  The fish will be delivered to the SWCD office.  The purchaser then needs to provide transportation from the office to the pond. (Large orders may be delivered directly to the pond.  Call for more details).  Suggested travel means for fish: coolers, 5 gallon buckets, garbage containers.  When purchasing catfish, pond owners MUST provide your own pond water for transport.  Order forms will be available online a few weeks before each sale.

Habitat Restoration Program (HRP): The Habitat Restoration Program (HRP) is offered by the Kendall, Kane-DuPage, Grundy, and Will-South Cook Soil and Water Conservation Districts.  The program is intended to provide cost-share and technical assistance for the protection, restoration and enhancement of aquatic resources with secondary benefits to wildlife habitat to landowners in priority areas of the Lower Fox River, Aux Sable Creek, Des Plaines River, and Little Calumet River watersheds.  Examples of projects that are eligible for cost-share assistance include: debris and jam removal, nesting structures, beaver dam by-pass, gully restoration, removal of drain tile, native prairie establishment, invasive species control, installation of drain tile flow control valve, and creation of shallow open water areas for wildlife.  For more information, contact the District's Resource Conservationist, Megan Andrews, at megan.andrews@il.nacdnet.net.

Illinois Conservation and Climate Initiative (ICCI): ICCI is a joint project of the State of Illinois and the Delta Institute that allows farmers and landowners to earn revenue through the sale of green house gas emissions credits when they use conservation practices such as no-till, grass plantings, reforestation or manure digesters.  These practices keep carbon out of the atmosphere while providing other environmental benefits such as the creation of wildlife habitat and reduced runoff from fields.

Kendall County Fair: Come and visit the Kids' Event Tent at the Fair located near the rides.  Together the District, Kendall County Farm Bureau, Newark FFA, Kendall County Forest Preserve and the Kendall County Fair Association provide games and activities for the whole family.

Kendall Growth Conference: The growth conference is an annual gathering of citizens, elected officials, land planners, developers and conservationists who meet to discuss growth/development topics and issues related to Kendall County, as population continues to rapidly expand.

Natural Resource Inventory Reports (NRI):

Nutrient Management Plan Practice (NMP): One of several practices available under the C-2000 program  is the NMP practice, which provides technical and financial assistance to farm operators who want to optimize the application of nutrients for plant production.  The practice encourages produces to utilize soil testing to increase efficiency of fertilizer use and, as a result reduces nutrient transport to waterways.  For more information, contact the District's Resource Conservationist, Megan Andrews, at megan.andrews@il.nacdnet.net.

Pond Seminar/Shocking: The Kendall and Grundy County SWCDs have partnered together to bring you two annual pond events conducted by Illinois Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Biologist, Rob Miller. Each spring, a Pond Seminar, and each fall, a Pond Shocking Demonstration, is held locally.  The events provide information on pond maintenance/care, fish stocking rate, pond shocking, chemicals, feed and related questions.

Soil Erosion & Sediment Control (SESC):

Streambank Stabilization and Restoration Practice (SSRP): This practice develops and demonstrates vegetative, stone structure and bio-engineering techniques for stabilizing critically eroding streambanks.  For more information, contact the District's Resource Conservationist, Megan Andrews, at megan.andrews@il.nacdnet.net.

Tree Sale: Each spring and fall, the District provides the public with the opportunity to purchase a variety of plants.  For your conservation needs, several species are available from potted trees, shrubs, evergreens, perennials and groundcover.  Items are pre-ordered then delivered to the District office for pick-up.  Order forms will be available online a few weeks before each sale.

Used Oil Pick-up: Annually, the District hosts a Used Oil Pick-up on the Saturday before Father's Day.  The event encourages residents to to recycle any used oil they have collected throughout the year.

Water Well Decommissioning Practice (WDP): The Water Well Decommissioning Practice (WDP) provides assistance to owners of improperly abandoned wells who wish to seal their wells in order to protect groundwater from potential contamination.  An abandoned well is an unused water well, and it poses one of the greatest threats to groundwater because it provides a direct route for pollutants to reach underground water supplies.  For more information, contact the District's Resource Conservationist, Megan Andrews, at megan.andrews@il.nacdnet.net.
